Gettysburg Address Response

1) Lincoln failed to mention all the people resposible for creating the nation. For example, past presidents, military leaders, and scholars. He should have given them more recognition.

2) The sentence was put into the Gettysburg Address to explain the reason why our nation was created. We are a free country but Lincoln questions how we can be a free country when we have slaves. Lincoln's last sentence gives American's "food for thought".

3) The Declaration of Independence was written to show Britain that they were independent and that they were free from their oppresion. In the Declaration of Independence they talk about how all men are free. In the Gettysburg Address Lincoln is referring to that exactly. If all men are created equal then why are there slaves is basically what he was asking. He needed to remind the people of America why this nation had been created.

4) The Gettysburg Address is by far the shortest speech I've heard. However, it is also one of the most powerful and effective speeches I've heard also. Lincoln's speech reminded people about things that they forgot.
